The Johnny Cash re interpretation of what was already an amazing song elevates the lyrics to a whole new level. The song is an examination of the effects that drug abuse has had on the singer. While NIN angrily explores the immediate effects the habit had on his life and those in it, Cash looks back at the many years gone by and the consequences his habits had on everyone around him.
NIN almost left you with a sense of hope at the end that it will all work out. Cash leaves you with a sense of heart breaking regret.
